2018 Mega-Conference

Accelerating investments and new ventures

Posted

The core challenge that local media executives have right now is not to come up with the next big thing, says Corey Ford, co-founder and managing director of Matter Ventures. Rather, he says, media execs need to build a culture and process that enables their organization to understand the audience so they can meet their needs while also leveraging new technology and seeking new revenue models.

Matter Ventures is an early stage venture capital fund and start-up accelerator focused on investing in and supporting entrepreneurs to build the future of media and journalism.

He said, "At Matter Ventures, we focus on creating environments where both entrepreneurs and media executives can do just that."

During a Tuesday morning breakout session at the Mega-Conference, he said attendees can expect to takeaway tangible lessons for how to think about early-stage investments, how to support innovation within their organization, and how to structure their team's processes so they can experiment their way toward deep customer relevance and a profitable, scalable, defendable business model.

In his talk, he'll unveil how his company selects the 12 media start-ups it decides to invest in – out of hundreds of applications – and how they support them to build meaningful and profitable media ventures through a 20-week program.

He said, "I'll also talk about how we help our partners do the same, transforming the most important thing in the process – their culture."

The Mega-Conference opens Monday in San Diego.

It's not too late to register. Walk-in registrations also will be accepted at the door.
